Sustainable Tourism Development
The Sustainable Tourism Development Project aims to position the Mikkeli region as one of the leading destinations for responsible tourism in the Saimaa area and to achieve regional Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) status. The project also seeks to promote the best practices and values of sustainable tourism among local businesses while ensuring the continuity, resilience, and economic sustainability of tourism enterprises in the region. Through the project, the importance of sustainable tourism will be communicated both from a regional perspective and from the viewpoint of individual businesses, strengthening the Mikkeli region’s responsible and environmentally friendly image as well as its competitiveness as a tourism destination.
To achieve these objectives, the project is divided into three work packages:

Promotion of Sustainable Tourism and the Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) Label
Development of Sustainable Business Practices
