IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE MARSHAL
Marshal Mannerheim was a significant Finnish cosmopolitan who spent a great deal of time in Mikkeli. This tour brings together key locations and stories from the Marshal’s daily life in wartime Mikkeli. During the tour, participants will see sites such as the Headquarters, Mannerheim’s railway saloon carriage, the Mikkeli Club, and more.
This guided walking tour starts from Mikkeli Market Square, in front of the Headquarters Monument (the Marshal’s statue). The tour lasts approximately one hour, and the walking distance is about 1–2.5 km. The guided walking tours will be led by Jorma Tiitinen on 8 July and Markku Riittinen on 22 July (authorized city guides of the Mikkeli Tourist Guides Association, Mikkelin Oppaat ry).

Additional Information
The programme includes verbal guidance along a walking route planned by the guide.
The tour does not include any distributed materials or refreshments.
Transportation to the starting point or from the ending point of the tour is not included.
Tour language: Finnish; if necessary, the tour can also be bilingual, with brief explanations available in English during the tour.
Difficulty level: participants should be able to move comfortably in urban environments. Parts of the route may include gravel paths in addition to asphalt surfaces. Some sections of the route are uneven.
The tours are not fully accessible, but are generally manageable, for example when using a stroller.
Participants should wear weather-appropriate clothing and good walking shoes.
We recommend bringing a water bottle or similar refreshment.
A safety plan has been prepared for the tours by the guides in accordance with the recommendations of the Finnish Association of Tourist Guides. The safety plan is available in electronic or printed form on every tour.
