MIKKELI THROUGH THE EYES OF IDA MARIA TILLMAN
A role-guided walking tour in downtown Mikkeli. Ida Maria Tillman was born in 1838, the same year the town of Mikkeli was founded, and during her long life she witnessed the city’s great transformation before her death in 1919. On this tour, participants will explore the new and growing Mikkeli in the company of Ida Maria.
This guided walking tour starts from Kirkkopuisto Park, in front of the bandstand. The tour lasts approximately one hour, and the walking distance is about 1–2.5 km. The guide for this tour is Kati Kotro, an authorised city guide of Mikkelin Oppaat ry.

The programme includes verbal guidance along a walking route planned by the guide.
The tour does not include any distributed materials or refreshments.
Transportation to the starting point or from the ending point of the tour is not included.
Tour language: Finnish; if necessary, the tour can also be bilingual, with brief explanations available in English during the tour.
Difficulty level: participants should be able to move comfortably in urban environments. Parts of the route may include gravel paths in addition to asphalt surfaces. Some sections of the route are uneven.
The tours are not fully accessible, but are generally manageable, for example when using a stroller.
Participants should wear weather-appropriate clothing and good walking shoes.
We recommend bringing a water bottle or similar refreshment.
A safety plan has been prepared for the tours by the guides in accordance with the recommendations of the Finnish Association of Tourist Guides. The safety plan is available in electronic or printed form on every tour.
